Eye to Eye: Activity from It’s Me They Follow
In The Shopkeeper’s Writers Group, The Good Doctor suggests the writers try an eye to eye activity.
3 Minutes
Activity: Pair up. Sit across from each other, close enough to be eye level. Set a timer for 3 minutes. Breathe. Make eye contact. Do not speak.
5 Minutes
Activity: Immediately after the timer ends, take 5 minutes to write about what you saw in the other person’s eyes. Focus on details, feelings, shifts in energy, or memories that surfaced. Use metaphor if needed. Avoid analyzing or interpreting.
5 Minutes
Activity: Take turns reading your writing aloud. No need to respond—just receive it. After both people have read, sit in silence for one additional minute.
Reflection
- What shifted in you during the silence?
- What surprised you about what your partner wrote?
- How does this experience shape how you see intimacy, presence, or storytelling?
